UFC CEO: Entrepreneurship Offers Less Freedom Than a 9-to-5 Job

UFC CEO Dana White has expressed concern that many aspiring entrepreneurs mistakenly believe that running a business offers greater flexibility and freedom than a traditional 9-to-5 job. Speaking on Steve Bartlett's "The Diary of a CEO" podcast, White asserted that building a successful business remotely or with a casual approach is impossible.

White, who has led the UFC for nearly 25 years, described his typical workday as demanding. He stated that he arrives at the office at 8:30 AM and often does not leave until 7, 8, or even 10 PM.

He argued that the notion of entrepreneurship being attractive due to flexible scheduling and ample time off is a misconception. "There is no such thing as a day off when you run your own business," White said. He added that birthdays, Christmases, and Thanksgivings lose their significance when new issues constantly arise that require attention.

Despite the demanding nature, White indicated that he does not view it as a burden because he enjoys his work. He advised young entrepreneurs to appreciate their roles and understand the level of commitment required, suggesting that a standard 9-to-5 position might offer more genuine personal time than entrepreneurship.
