Uganda Airlines Orders Boeing 737 MAX and 787 Dreamliner Jets
Uganda Airlines has ordered four Boeing 737 MAX and four Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft to renew and grow its fleet. This marks the national carrier's first purchase from Boeing.
Uganda Airlines has placed an order for eight new Boeing aircraft, comprising four 737-8 models and four 787-9 Dreamliners. This first-time purchase from Boeing is intended to modernize and expand the African carrier's fleet, supporting rising travel demand in the East African region and beyond.
The new aircraft are set to bolster the airline's regional and international network. The 737-8s are suited for intra-Africa routes and services to the Middle East and India, while the longer-range 787-9 will enable flights to Asia, Europe, and the Middle East, aiming to increase capacity and open new markets.
Uganda Airlines CEO Ato Girma Wake stated that the agreement signifies a crucial step in the airline's growth and aims to establish Entebbe as a key aviation hub. "The aircraft will strengthen our ability to connect Uganda more efficiently to regional, continental, and international markets," Wake said in the announcement.
Boeing indicated that the combination of 737 MAX and 787 Dreamliner aircraft will help Uganda Airlines expand its network while improving fuel efficiency by an estimated 20-25% compared to the planes they replace. Both companies highlighted that the deal also initiates a long-term partnership focused on technical excellence, training, and capacity building.
