UK Police: Arrest of Two Young Hackers Disrupts Notorious Group's Operations
British police announced Thursday that the jailing of two teenage hackers has significantly disrupted the operations of an infamous cybercrime group.

U.K. police stated on Thursday that the imprisonment of two teenage hackers has "severely" hampered the activities of the notorious cybercrime group known as Scattered Spider.
Owen Flowers, 18, and Thalha Jubair, 20, previously pleaded guilty to hacking Transport for London (TfL), the government body overseeing the U.K. capital’s public transit system, in 2024. Both were sentenced on Thursday to five years and six months in prison.
The arrest and sentencing of Flowers and Jubair serve as a reminder of law enforcement's increasing capability to track and prosecute young cybercriminals. The Scattered Spider group has been linked to several high-profile attacks, including breaches at multiple major corporations.
Authorities are increasingly employing sophisticated digital investigation methods to identify malicious actors. The conviction also highlights the importance of international cooperation in combating cybercrime. While the disruption may offer temporary relief to targets, the evolving nature of cyber threats necessitates continuous vigilance and advanced security measures.
