Ukraine Strikes Russian Rocket Factory with Cruise Missiles

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed on Saturday that his country struck the Progress Rocket Space Center deep within Russia using ground-launched cruise missiles.

"In Russia’s Samara region, one of the key enterprises within Roscosmos—the Progress Center, which was involved, among other things, in electronics production–was hit," Zelenskyy stated on the social media platform X. He indicated that "Flamingo missiles" were utilized in the strike.

Samara, the largest city in the Samara Oblast and located approximately 900 km from the Ukrainian border, hosts Russia's most significant rocket manufacturer. The Progress Center assembles the Soyuz-2 vehicle, a workhorse for Russia's space program, as well as the newer Soyuz-5 rocket. The facility also produces military satellites.

Specifics regarding the extent of the damage or the immediate impact of the strike have not been publicly disclosed. The Progress Center's role in Russia's space program and military-industrial complex positions it as a strategically important target.
