College Park, Md. – The University of Maryland's Robert H. Smith School of Business will introduce a one-year Master of Science in Marketing (MSM) program beginning in Fall 2027. The program reflects the school's commitment to preparing students for roles at the convergence of artificial intelligence and business.
Modern marketing professionals are navigating a landscape increasingly shaped by technologies such as generative AI and new platforms for customer engagement and campaign management. The MSM curriculum is designed to equip students with hands-on experience using these tools and understanding their strategic application in marketing and business contexts.
The 30-credit program targets early-career professionals interested in marketing. It includes coursework in marketing and brand strategy, consumer insights, and client management, with a significant emphasis on AI applications. Over two semesters, students will engage in experiential learning through projects like consulting assignments and executive presentations.
"Artificial intelligence is fundamentally changing the field of marketing and the skills required. Smith is carrying out consequential work in AI-enhanced, human-centered business, and our faculty have designed a curriculum that combines marketing fundamentals with cutting-edge use of AI tools," said Judy Frels, MSM academic director. The program aims to foster creativity, AI proficiency, and strategic thinking relevant to contemporary marketing practices.
