UN Global Compact Summit Urges Businesses to Take Action on Sustainability

New York – The UN Global Compact concluded its 2026 Leaders Summit today, gathering more than 750 business leaders, investors, policymakers, and UN representatives for a two-day event focused on translating sustainability commitments into tangible actions.
The summit centered on driving sustainable growth and resilience amidst geopolitical uncertainty and economic volatility. Participants emphasized the need to transform corporate sustainability goals into measurable outcomes and to build systems that support long-term sustainable development.
Discussions covered how companies can enhance their resilience while advancing responsible business practices. The importance of collaboration to overcome challenges that no single company can solve alone was also a key theme.
Sanda Ojiambo, CEO and Executive Director of the UN Global Compact, stressed that retreating into short-termism is not an option. She highlighted that resilience is built on a strong purpose embedded in company strategy, requiring the integration of sustainability principles into investment, operations, and risk management.
