China's advancements in electricity technology innovation are leading globally, and its overall power sector development ranks among the world's foremost. This finding comes from the "Global Electricity Development Index (2026)" research report, released during a UN high-level political forum event on the global energy internet in New York.

The report evaluated the electricity development of 100 countries across four dimensions: supply security, consumer services, green and low-carbon development, and technological innovation. For comprehensive development, the top five countries were Finland, Sweden, Switzerland, China, and Norway. China's technological innovation in the power sector was ranked first globally. The nation also holds the largest installed capacity for clean energy and leads in the application of smart grid technologies.

The report indicates a rapid transformation in the global electricity sector. By 2025, the total installed capacity of new energy sources exceeded nearly 40% of the global total installed capacity. Technologies such as artificial intelligence, digital twins, and virtual power plants are moving from demonstration to large-scale application.

China, a founding member of the Global Energy Interconnection Development and Cooperation Organization, has significantly expanded its electricity generation capacity. Its current installed capacity surpasses 4 billion kilowatts, exceeding the combined capacity of the United States, the European Union, India, Japan, and Russia. Projections estimate this capacity will reach 5.4 billion kilowatts by 2030, with new energy sources constituting over 50%.
