Uniper Sells OPAL Pipeline Stake to Hydrogen Investor Hy24

Uniper has entered into an agreement to sell its 20% interest in the OPAL gas pipeline to Hy24, an investment manager focused on hydrogen infrastructure. The transaction involves the sale of Lubmin-Brandov Assets GmbH & Co. KG, the entity holding Uniper's share.

The divestment is a required structural remedy under EU state aid law, following the European Commission's approval of Uniper's stabilization package in December 2022. Uniper stated that the sale also aligns its portfolio with its strategic core businesses.

OPAL is a significant European gas transmission corridor, approximately 470 kilometers long, connecting Lubmin in Germany to Brandov in the Czech Republic. The pipeline's northern section was converted as part of Germany's hydrogen core network in mid-December 2025, with the southern section anticipated to follow by the end of 2030.

Hy24's acquisition positions the investor within infrastructure being integrated into Germany's developing hydrogen transmission system. The transaction is subject to regulatory approvals and the non-exercise of pre-emption rights by the co-owner.
