Technology firm Unitree has released its new seven-axis dexterous robot arm, named the R1, with a starting price of RMB 9,900 (approximately $1,370 USD). The arm is designed for precision tasks, offering a repeat-positioning accuracy of approximately 0.1 millimeters.
The R1 arm features maximum joint speeds exceeding 180 degrees per second and has a maximum reach of 650 millimeters, complete with a dexterous hand. It is rated for a payload of up to 2 kilograms.
Weighing 5.5 kilograms, the arm incorporates force feedback and collision detection functionalities. It operates on an Ubuntu-based development environment and supports both XT30 and CAN485 interfaces.
Unitree intends to make the control software and interfaces for the R1 arm open-source. Target applications for the technology include research, education, industrial assembly, and service robotics.
