Unitree Robotics G1 withdraws from Mount Tai competition due to overheating
A Unitree Robotics G1 humanoid robot was removed from the CMG World Robot competition on Mount Tai after suffering from thermal issues.
The Unitree Robotics G1 development model, participating in the inaugural CMG World Robot competition on Mount Tai, failed to complete the course on November 2. Operators withdrew the robot mid-race after it suffered from overheating, necessitating the use of a stretcher to carry the unit off the mountain.
The competition featured a 3.9-kilometer course with over 3,100 stone steps, pushing participating robotic systems to their mechanical limits. While the G1 model is a recognized product for the company, it was unable to maintain operational stability under the intense physical demands of the terrain.
Nearly 90 teams participated in the event, which evaluated robots across categories including speed, weight-bearing, and exoskeleton assistance. While other competitors successfully reached the finish line, the incident highlights the ongoing challenges of thermal management and endurance for humanoid robots in outdoor, high-intensity scenarios.
