UOB and AWS Sign MOU to Explore Hybrid Cloud and AI
Singapore-based UOB and Amazon Web Services (AWS) will explore hybrid cloud infrastructure and AI-driven banking across five Southeast Asian countries.

UOB, a bank headquartered in Singapore with operations across Southeast Asia, has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Amazon Web Services (AWS) to explore new technological avenues.
The agreement focuses on investigating the implementation of hybrid cloud infrastructure and AI-driven solutions within banking operations in Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, and Vietnam. The goal is to enhance customer experience and operational efficiency through technological advancements.
Initial areas of focus include cloud architecture, data analytics, and the application of AI for customer engagement. UOB will also evaluate AWS platforms such as Amazon Bedrock for generative AI applications and leverage AWS training programs to upskill its workforce in cloud and AI competencies.
The planned hybrid model will combine UOB's existing on-premises infrastructure with cloud-based services. A dedicated environment in Singapore is intended to meet the bank's requirements for security, governance, and data residency across all five markets. This collaboration comes as AWS has announced significant investments in cloud and AI infrastructure in Southeast Asia.
