UPI Facilitates Money Transfers from Qatar to India
India Post and Qatar Post have launched PosTransfer, a UPI-based remittance service allowing users in Qatar to send money directly to UPI-linked bank accounts in India. The service became operational on August 15.

India Post, in collaboration with Qatar Post, has launched a new remittance service named PosTransfer, enabling individuals in Qatar to send funds directly to UPI-linked bank accounts in India. The service, which went live on August 15, utilizes India's Unified Payments Interface (UPI) infrastructure.
The service was developed through the Universal Postal Union's (UPU) Interconnection Platform, a collaboration between UPU and NPCI International Payments Limited (NIPL). Customers can access PosTransfer at participating Qatar Post outlets, sending amounts ranging from QR10 (approximately Rs 262) to QR4,000 (approximately Rs 1.05 lakh) using cash or cards.
Funds are credited to UPI-linked accounts in India nearly instantaneously, according to Sandeep Kumar, chargé d’affaires at the Indian Embassy in Doha. This service is particularly significant given Qatar's large Indian expatriate community of over 800,000 people. Remittances from Qatar to India were estimated at $5.8 billion in 2025.
This expansion follows UPI's earlier introduction to Qatar for merchant payments in September 2025 through a partnership with Qatar National Bank. The new PosTransfer service specifically targets cross-border personal remittances, further integrating financial links between the two nations.
