Urban Company Plans Significant Capital Raise

Indian home services company Urban Company is planning a significant capital raise of up to ₹2,500 Cr (approximately $300 million USD). The company's board has approved a proposal aimed at strengthening its financial standing and supporting strategic ambitions. The new capital is intended to absorb short-term operational expenses without straining internal cash flows.

Recent financial disclosures reveal a threefold increase in the company's net losses during the second quarter of fiscal year 2027. This is largely attributed to losses from its quick-service vertical, InstaHelp, and continued business investments. Intensifying competition within the home services sector is compelling Urban Company to invest heavily in customer acquisition, gig worker retention, and market expansion.

In addition to the capital raise, Urban Company is expanding into the installable air conditioning market under its Native brand. The venture will rely on its proprietary app for distribution, focusing initially on product feedback and calibrated capital allocation. The move into a new product category, coupled with InstaHelp's losses, makes the need for additional funding more pressing.

Urban Company aims to solidify its competitive stance in the home services market, pursue profitability, and develop new business lines. The prospective ₹2,500 Cr in funding is expected to support these objectives, enabling international expansion and potential acquisitions without compromising core product margins.
