Urban Company Proposes ₹2,500 Crore Fundraising

Indian home services provider Urban Company has seen its board approve a proposal to raise as much as ₹2,500 crore (approximately $250 million USD). The move aims to strengthen the company's financial position as it navigates increased competition and pursues business expansion.

The need for additional capital is underscored by intense competition in its rapid home services segment, InstaHelp, where rivals like Snabbit and Pronto are vying for market share. This has led to significant investments and widening losses. For Q2 FY27, the company reported an adjusted EBITDA loss of ₹144 crore (approximately $17.4 million USD), with a substantial portion attributed to InstaHelp.

Urban Company intends to utilize the potential funds not only to support InstaHelp but also to expand its Native brand into the home appliances market, starting with residential air conditioners. The company is also evaluating strategic acquisitions that could solidify its presence in existing markets or open doors to new ventures.

The management stated that the fundraising would provide strategic flexibility to invest across all business verticals and achieve ambitious growth objectives. While the company believes it can meet its profitability targets without the capital, the proposed round would enable faster and more robust expansion across multiple fronts.
