U.S. Defense Industrial Base Initiative Expands
The BuildFreedom.US program, promoting skilled trades careers, is expanding its reach into Ohio, Illinois, and Wisconsin.
BuildFreedom.US, a federal workforce initiative focused on skilled trades, has announced the next phase of its national campaign. The program, funded by the Industrial Base Analysis and Sustainment (IBAS) Program within the Office of the Assistant Secretary for Industrial Base Policy, is expanding into Ohio, Illinois, and Wisconsin following a successful initial launch.
The initiative aims to bolster the U.S. defense industrial base and address a growing skills gap. BuildFreedom.US connects individuals with pathways to develop in-demand skills, earn competitive wages, and contribute to national security through scholarships, apprenticeships, and job opportunities in critical trades.
Ohio, Illinois, and Wisconsin were selected for this expansion due to their significant roles in the American defense industrial sector. These states possess strong manufacturing and industrial foundations, particularly in advanced manufacturing, aerospace, and defense-related technical fields, facing a critical need for skilled labor.
BuildFreedom.US is also partnering with Mike Rowe, founder of the mikeroweWORKS Foundation. The foundation received a $10 million grant to support its Work Ethic Scholarship Program, and Rowe will continue his involvement in the initiative's upcoming stages.
