US-Korea Framework Advances Westinghouse Nuclear Technology Deployment

Brookfield Asset Management has welcomed a new strategic framework agreement between the U.S. government and the Republic of Korea to support the deployment of Westinghouse technology in the United States. The framework commits up to $120 billion in Korean investment to help finance the construction of eight large nuclear reactors.

Of the eight reactors, six will be Westinghouse AP1000 models and two will be Korean APR1400 reactors, which also incorporate Westinghouse technology. The reactors are planned for federal sites designated by the U.S. government, utilizing the capabilities of companies from both nations.

The agreement outlines a pathway for the construction of these new reactors and includes a potential equity investment of 5% to 10% in Westinghouse by Korea, aligning the parties on the technology's growth. The framework also provides Westinghouse with an upfront payment and guaranteed scope of work, including fuel fabrication services.

Brookfield Asset Management CEO Connor Teskey stated the agreement highlights the U.S. as an attractive market for new nuclear generation. This initiative builds on a strategic partnership announced in October 2025 involving the U.S. Department of Commerce, Westinghouse, Brookfield, and Cameco, aiming to fund at least $80 billion in Westinghouse reactors on U.S. federal sites.
