US lifts export controls, Anthropic restores global access to Claude Fable 5

AI company Anthropic has reinstated global access to its most advanced AI model, Claude Fable 5. The move follows the U.S. Department of Commerce's withdrawal of emergency export control orders that had previously suspended the model's international availability.

The original export controls, issued on June 12, 2026, prompted Anthropic to halt worldwide access to both Fable 5 and its cybersecurity counterpart, Claude Mythos 5, shortly after their introduction. Fable 5 is now accessible again globally through Anthropic's primary platforms, including Claude Platform, Claude.ai, Claude Code, and Claude Cowork.

Anthropic is working to re-enable access for enterprise customers on major cloud platforms such as Amazon Web Services, Google Cloud, and Microsoft*. Access to Claude Mythos 5 remains restricted, currently available to a select group of U.S. organizations participating in its Project Glasswing cybersecurity testing program, with broader domestic and international expansion being coordinated with the government.

Both Fable 5 and Mythos 5 are priced at $10.00 per million input tokens and $50.00 per million output tokens, positioning them among the most expensive frontier models globally. To incentivize adoption following the disruption, Anthropic is offering Fable 5 usage at no additional cost for up to 50% of a user's weekly allowance for certain subscription tiers until July 7.

The rapid regulatory rollback highlights the volatility in enterprise software supply chains. Critics had argued that the initial export controls risked hindering U.S. industry by creating an opening for competitors.
