U.S. Mayors Launch National Tour to Address Cost of Living

The U.S. Conference of Mayors (USCM) has announced a four-city national tour aimed at tackling one of the most significant challenges facing American families: the rising cost of everyday life.

The tour, dubbed the USCM Affordability Tour, begins in Albuquerque on October 8. It will convene mayors, local leaders, community organizations, and residents to examine the impact of increasing costs on families. Each stop will concentrate on key areas straining household budgets, such as childcare, housing, healthcare, and food, while identifying practical, replicable solutions.

USCM President Todd Gloria, who also serves as Mayor of San Diego, highlighted that mayors consistently hear from constituents about the pressures of rising housing, grocery, childcare, and healthcare costs. "This tour is about learning from one another, spotlighting what works, and finding ways to make everyday life more affordable for American families," Gloria stated.

The initiative comes as a new survey commissioned by the USCM reveals the scale of the affordability crisis. According to the survey of 113 mayors, 96% reported that their residents are very or extremely concerned about rising costs. Nearly all mayors surveyed (96%) agreed that housing costs are the primary driver of the crisis, underscoring the need for federal support for local efforts.
