US Pentagon DMDC Database Hacked, Nearly 3 Million Records Leaked

The US Department of Defense's Defence Manpower Data Center (DMDC) has suffered an unauthorized access incident, resulting in the exposure of personal data for approximately 3 million individuals. The breach is reported to have occurred between October 2025 and July 2026.

DMDC is a key personnel database for the Pentagon, housing over 60 million records. The leaked information includes social security numbers and details of military and civilian personnel. While officials state the vulnerability was quickly fixed and no evidence of data misuse has been found, the exposure poses potential security risks.

The incident impacted 2.76 million living individuals and 294,000 deceased individuals. The inclusion of job duties in the leaked data raises concerns about the potential identification of individuals in sensitive national security roles.

This breach occurred around the same time the FBI also reported a cyberattack on its recruitment portal, FBIJobs.gov, which may have exposed personal information of its employees.
