US Plans to Livestream Execution of Fort Hood Shooter

The U.S. military intends to livestream the execution of Nidal Hasan, the former Army major convicted in the 2009 Fort Hood shooting that killed 13 people and wounded more than 30 others. Officials from the Department of Defense confirmed the plan to media outlets, according to reports.

Hasan is scheduled to be put to death by firing squad on December 3rd at 2 p.m. Eastern Time at a military facility. This marks a significant, and potentially controversial, decision regarding the public dissemination of an execution.

The Verge reached out to major livestreaming platforms, including YouTube, Twitch, TikTok, Meta, Rumble, and Kick, to inquire about their policies on hosting such an event. As of publication, none of the platforms had responded.

The execution, carried out by firing squad, will be the first for Hasan. His conviction stemmed from a mass shooting at Fort Hood, Texas, where he attacked soldiers and civilians.
