US Private Sector Adds Jobs at Slower Pace in Late September

U.S. private employers added an average of 24,750 jobs per week over the four weeks concluding September 26, 2026, according to preliminary estimates. The figures are derived from NER Pulse, a weekly update to the monthly ADP National Employment Report.

Hiring activity slowed after five consecutive weeks of strengthening. These are preliminary numbers and are subject to change as new data becomes available. NER Pulse utilizes ADP's high-frequency data and incorporates a two-week lag for accurate real-time employment trend estimation.

The report is produced in collaboration with the Stanford Digital Economy Lab. ADP Research Institute aims to enhance the productivity of the future of work through data-driven discovery, with its insights utilized by companies, workers, and policymakers for informed decision-making.

ADP is a global provider of HR and payroll solutions with over 75 years of experience, serving more than 1.1 million clients across 140 countries.
