US Senate Probes Tech Firms Over Trump-Era Donations

Incoming Senate investigative subcommittee chair Richard Blumenthal is demanding records from major tech companies regarding donations made to White House projects.

7 November 2026

Senator Richard Blumenthal has requested that Apple, Meta, Google, Nvidia, Amazon, and Microsoft submit records regarding significant financial contributions made to White House ballroom projects during the Donald Trump administration. The request signals a looming oversight effort, with the threat of subpoenas by January 2027 if the companies fail to comply.

The investigation seeks to clarify the nature of these donations, which reached 25 million dollars per company, and evaluate potential conflicts of interest between corporate donors and the executive branch. This move is part of a broader push by Democratic lawmakers to intensify corporate oversight, with companies reportedly hiring legal counsel to prepare for potential congressional inquiries.

In addition to the financial probe, Apple faces scrutiny over its prior decision to remove the ICEBlock application from its App Store. Lawmakers, including Representative Jamie Raskin, have questioned whether the move was coerced by the Department of Justice under the guise of officer safety, potentially infringing on First Amendment speech protections.
