US Senators, Canada Criticize Trump's Russia Diesel Deal

Seven U.S. senators from both Democratic and Republican parties have deemed President Donald Trump's agreement to import diesel from Russia as illegal. The senators stated the deal violates a 2022 law that prohibits the import of Russian energy into the United States and urged the administration to reverse the decision immediately.

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney has also sharply criticized Trump's agreement with Russian President Vladimir Putin, stating that the deal provides Moscow with additional revenue to finance the war against Ukraine. Trump had announced the agreement on Friday, aiming to lower rising fuel prices in the U.S.

European Union foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas has warned of a potential oil disaster along European coasts due to Russia's so-called "shadow fleet" of tankers, which she described as "ecological time bombs." Kallas also noted that these ships serve to finance Russia's war of aggression against Ukraine.

In Germany, Minister-President Michael Kretschmer has called on the federal government to increase diplomatic efforts for a peaceful resolution in Ukraine. He criticized ongoing arms deliveries, stating they have led to a "catastrophe," and advocated for Germany to instead contribute to achieving a ceasefire in the region.
