US Zinc Mine Production Leaders Identified
Procurement Resource has identified the top five zinc mines in the USA based on production volume. The Red Dog Mine in Alaska leads the list as the largest producer.

The United States' zinc mining output is primarily driven by five major operations, according to a report by Procurement Resource. The Red Dog Mine, located in Alaska, stands as the nation's largest zinc ore producer, with an estimated 555,000 tonnes output in 2022. The mine is owned by Teck Resources and is projected to operate until 2031.
Teck Resources, the owner of the Red Dog Mine, is a Canadian company founded in 1913, primarily involved in metal processing and manufacturing. The company operates significant metal mines globally, with Red Dog being a key asset in the US.
Missouri's Sweetwater Mine ranks second, producing an estimated 111.55 thousand tonnes of zinc in 2022. This facility is operated by The Renco Group, a diversified investment firm focused on metal mining and processing, established in 1986.
Tennessee hosts two of the top mines: East Tennessee Mines and Middle Tennessee Mines, both operated by Nyrstar Metal Processing. In 2022, East Tennessee Mines produced approximately 73.75 thousand tonnes, while Middle Tennessee Mines yielded 37.55 thousand tonnes. Hecla Mining Company's Greens Creek Mine in Alaska is the fourth largest, with a reported output of 46.97 thousand tonnes for the same year.
