USA Invites Putin to G20 Summit in Miami

The United States has invited Russian President Vladimir Putin to the G20 summit scheduled to take place in Miami at the end of September. The invitation was issued on Wednesday. This outreach occurs amidst the ongoing war in Ukraine and strained relations between Russia and Western nations.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stated on Wednesday that Russia would not pause its military operations in Ukraine, accusing Europe of attempting to rearm Kyiv. This comes after U.S. President Donald Trump had called for both Russia and Ukraine to cease attacks on energy infrastructure.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy had previously indicated a willingness to halt attacks on Russian energy infrastructure, contingent on Moscow ceasing similar actions against Ukraine. Zelenskyy also accused Russia of employing soldiers from 47 different countries, including India, Ghana, and Nepal.

On Monday, September 23, Poland reported that a Russian military helicopter had entered Polish airspace. The incident was reported amid escalating conflict in Ukraine and further straining relations between neighboring countries.
