USAA Unveils Temporary Memorial Honoring All U.S. Veterans
Financial services company USAA has launched a temporary memorial at the Lincoln Memorial, honoring over 41 million U.S. veterans from the Revolutionary War to the present day.
Financial services company USAA has erected a temporary installation on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial dedicated to the over 41 million Americans who have served in uniform from the Revolutionary War to contemporary conflicts.
The National Military Monument, as it's called, commemorates the 250th anniversary of America's founding. The design integrates traditional monument aesthetics with modern technology.
The memorial consists of two double-sided structures, 18 feet tall and 62 feet wide, designed to resemble American flags. They are clad in material to mimic Indiana limestone, matching the Lincoln Memorial.
Embedded within the structures are 528 LED screens that display the names of U.S. service members, separated by stars. USAA compiled the veteran names from various sources due to the absence of a single comprehensive historical record.
Interactive elements, including an online portal and kiosks, allow the public to search for names and submit those missing. The temporary monument demonstrates that significant impact does not require a permanent structure.
