Valve extends Steam review times to 12 business days amid submission surge
Valve has adjusted its Steam game review process as submission volumes for store pages and builds rise, leading to current wait times of up to 12 business days.
Valve is updating its game review protocols for the Steam platform to manage a significant backlog caused by an increase in submissions. While standard review times typically span three to five business days, the company reported that delays have extended the window to as many as 12 business days in recent weeks.
The backlog has been attributed largely to repeat submissions, where games fail review due to avoidable technical oversights. To streamline the process, Valve has introduced a mandatory pre-submission checklist. Developers are now required to verify that their builds launch successfully through the Steam client—a step previously bypassed by some—and ensure all necessary components, such as DirectX and Visual C++ libraries, are correctly configured for installation.
The move follows public reports from independent developers who noted that review delays have forced them to push back scheduled release dates. Valve indicated that these procedural changes, which include requirements for developers to verify localization assets and provide credentials for account-gated multiplayer features, are intended to reduce the need for iterative reviews.
Valve continues to refine its developer documentation and review workflows. The company advised creators to ensure that store page descriptions, marketing assets, and disclosure surveys are fully aligned with the final game content before initiating the submission process.
