Varma's investment assets exceed EUR 70 billion
Finnish pension provider Varma reported its investment assets exceeded EUR 70 billion for the first half of 2026. The company's investments yielded 5.3 percent during the period.

Finnish mutual pension insurance company Varma announced that the value of its investment assets surpassed EUR 70 billion in the first half of 2026. The company reported an investment return of 5.3 percent for the period, with total assets reaching EUR 71.4 billion by the end of June.
Varma stated that market resilience was strong despite geopolitical uncertainties, including the war in Iran and its impact on the energy market. Capital expenditure in artificial intelligence and semiconductor companies reportedly supported economic growth and stock markets.
Equity investments returned 10.7 percent, while real estate investments saw a decline of 2.0 percent. Fixed-income investments yielded 0.4 percent. Varma's solvency ratio stood at 137.4 percent at the end of the reporting period.
The company is adapting to a pension reform effective July, which allows for increased investment risk and return targets. Varma is increasing its allocation to equities and has also expressed concerns regarding the proposed reforms for self-employed persons' pension security (YEL).
The number of individuals covered by Varma's statutory earnings-related pension insurance and those receiving pensions from the company exceeded one million. Varma disbursed EUR 3.9 billion in pension payments during the first half of the year.
