Velocys introduces larger Fischer-Tropsch reactor for sustainable fuel projects
Technology company Velocys has launched its new AlphaCore 800 reactor, designed to support larger-scale sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) and e-fuels projects. The company aims to reduce reactor count and lower production costs.

Velocys, a licensor of Fischer-Tropsch technology for sustainable fuels, has announced the release of its AlphaCore 800 reactor. This new, larger-capacity microchannel reactor is designed to facilitate the production of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) and synthetic e-fuels at a larger scale.
The company states that the AlphaCore 800 is engineered to reduce the number of reactors needed for a given output, simplify the overall Fischer-Tropsch (FT) configuration, and consequently lower the unit cost of producing sustainable fuels. This development aims to address the growing demand for scalable solutions in the renewable fuels sector.
Fischer-Tropsch technology is a process that converts synthesis gas into liquid hydrocarbons, serving as a foundation for producing fuels from diverse sources like biomass or renewable electricity. Velocys' introduction of a larger reactor capacity is positioned as a key step in enabling more cost-effective and widespread deployment of these technologies.
The broader energy industry is increasingly focused on decarbonization, with significant investment and policy support directed towards sustainable fuels. Velocys' expanded reactor offering is intended to support this transition by providing a more efficient pathway for commercial-scale production of low-carbon fuels.
