Venomics AI Secures $2.7 Million for Venom-Based Drug Discovery
Bengaluru-based biotechnology firm Venomics AI has raised $2.7 million to utilize artificial intelligence in identifying therapeutic molecules within animal venoms.

Venomics AI, a startup spun out of the Indian Institute of Science, has raised $2.7 million in a pre-seed funding round co-led by Speciale Invest and South Park Commons. The capital injection marks a step in the company’s efforts to screen animal venoms for potential pharmaceutical applications.
The company utilizes a platform that combines molecular sequencing, AI-driven prediction, and laboratory screening to map the diversity of compounds found in venomous species. According to co-founder Kartik Sunagar, the firm aims to unlock unexplored biological targets that have evolved over millions of years.
Proceeds from the funding will be directed toward expanding the 'Venom Atlas' molecular database and strengthening the company's computational and wet-lab capabilities. The company plans to grow its team across disciplines including venom biology and drug discovery.
The investment coincides with a broader expansion of India's biotechnology sector, which is increasingly supported by government initiatives like the Biopharma SHAKTI scheme. Venomics AI joins a cohort of domestic firms attempting to translate biological research into clinical-stage leads.
