Vessev unveils electric ferry that nearly flies

New York – Technology company Vessev has introduced its new electric ferry, the VS-9, which employs hydrofoil technology. This innovative approach causes the vessel to lift out of the water, achieving higher speeds with reduced energy consumption.

Traditional ferries experience significant water resistance and hull slap as speed increases. Vessev's VS-9 addresses this issue with its hydrofoil wings. Once the vessel reaches sufficient velocity, these foils lift the hull clear of the water, leaving only small portions of the foils in contact with the surface. This dramatically reduces friction, enabling a more efficient and smoother ride.

"When do we start flying?" Vessev co-founder and CEO Eric Laakmann asked as their electric ferry, the VS-9, departed from Brooklyn Marina. The response was: "We already are." While the experience isn't quite flying, the hydrofoil technology provides a significantly smoother and more sports-car-like ride compared to conventional ferries.

The VS-9 is a approximately 30-foot catamaran designed for urban transport and short routes. Its electric drivetrain offers a zero-emission alternative to traditional fuel-powered ferries, promoting sustainability in maritime transport. Vessev aims to revolutionize urban water transit with this technology, offering a faster, quieter, and more environmentally friendly mode of travel.
