Veteran golfer returns to Simpson Cup following knee treatment
Veteran David Ward will compete in his 14th Simpson Cup this November after undergoing hydrogel injection therapy for knee osteoarthritis.

David Ward, a 61-year-old veteran based in Plymouth, is set to participate in the Simpson Cup from November 1 to 4. Ward, who lost his right leg in a 1989 plane crash, had faced increasing mobility challenges due to severe osteoarthritis in his remaining knee, which previously required him to use structural supports.
In 2023, Ward received an Arthrosamid injection, a hydrogel therapy developed by Joint Operations Medical GmbH for the treatment of knee osteoarthritis. Ward reported that the outpatient procedure provided sufficient pain relief and improved joint function to allow him to return to competitive golf.
The Simpson Cup is an annual event organized by the On Course Foundation, which supports wounded military veterans through golf. This year’s tournament is scheduled to take place at the Shady Oaks Country Club in Fort Worth, Texas.
