VIAVI Joins EU 6G Project for AI-Driven Security Testing
VIAVI Solutions has secured $1.1 million in EU funding for the SHIELD-6G project, which aims to develop AI-driven cybersecurity testing for future 6G networks.

CHANDLER, Arizona โ July 14, 2026 โ VIAVI Solutions Inc. has been awarded $1.1 million in funding from the European Smart Networks and Services Joint Undertaking (SNS JU) and Horizon Europe to advance the SHIELD-6G project, focusing on developing AI-driven security testing for upcoming 6G networks.
Network security has become a strategic priority for operators, enterprises, and governments globally, driven by increasing telecom breaches and the looming threat of quantum-enabled cyberattacks. The SHIELD-6G project aims to create a comprehensive AI-driven Cyber Threat Intelligence (CTI) platform for 6G networks. VIAVI will utilize its TeraVM AI RAN Scenario Generator (RSG) technology to develop digital twins, enabling the creation, testing, and validation of AI-based security models before the first commercial 6G signals are deployed.
As part of the SHIELD-6G initiative, VIAVI will employ its AI RSG technology for advanced security testing of 6G network environments. This involves using AI to simulate, detect, and analyze potential threats across the network. The project will generate realistic network datasets to facilitate intelligent anomaly detection and the continuous refinement of AI-driven security mechanisms, ensuring vulnerabilities are identified and addressed proactively.
The SHIELD-6G project is part of a competitive Horizon Europe SNS JU call designed to accelerate European 6G research and innovation. VIAVI will collaborate within a consortium coordinated by University College Dublin, alongside other global industry leaders and network operators. VIAVI Solutions is a provider of test, measurement, and optical technology solutions used in critical infrastructure worldwide.
