Vibe Coding Enables Startups to Build Applications Using Natural Language
Vibe coding, the process of generating functional applications through natural language prompts, is accelerating product development and reducing costs for startups.

A new development methodology termed "vibe coding" is transforming the software development landscape for startups by utilizing artificial intelligence to create functional applications based solely on natural language instructions.
This method bypasses the need for traditional coding expertise, allowing founders to rapidly convert ideas into functional prototypes. Asif Bhatti, a product partnerships lead at Replit, explains that vibe coding empowers entrepreneurs to iterate on their products and gather customer feedback almost instantaneously.
AI-driven platforms, such as Replit Agent, can autonomously handle complex development tasks, significantly reducing reliance on traditional development teams. This can dramatically lower development costs, reportedly from quotes upwards of hundreds of thousands of dollars to a few hundred or thousand dollars for testing and learning.
With vibe coding, startups can experiment with more ideas using fewer resources, extending their operational runway. This approach supports rapid growth for startups and their search for product-market fit during times when funding can be constrained.
The term, attributed to computer scientist Andrej Karpathy in early 2025, describes this shift towards more intuitive and less technically demanding software development. While AI tools have advanced rapidly, vibe coding marks a significant leap forward in accessibility.
