Vic Mensa's Career Resurgence Driven by Digital Content Success
Rapper Vic Mensa has signed a new record deal with UnitedMasters, leveraging the success of his online video series "Orange Tree Series" which attracted industry attention.

Rapper Vic Mensa has secured a new record deal with UnitedMasters, which will release his 2013 mixtape INNANETAPE on streaming platforms in late September and a new album in 2027. The agreement follows the success of Mensa's "Orange Tree Series," a video content collection that garnered industry attention.
The "Orange Tree Series," where Mensa discusses topics of race, money, history, and current events on Instagram, has accumulated millions of views and won a Webby Award. This digital success attracted the attention of UnitedMasters, despite Mensa's previous music releases not achieving significant commercial success.
UnitedMasters' Senior Director of A&R, Alyssa Castiglia, reached out to Mensa in November. She was impressed by the series' consistency and clarity of vision, as well as how the content was packaged for social media. According to Castiglia, Mensa possessed the "right ingredients" for success, regardless of whether the series had yet achieved broader reach.
Mensa, who previously had a deal with Roc Nation, first built his audience independently through digital content. This strategy ultimately proved more effective in relaunching his career than traditional music industry avenues.
