Vienna International Airport deploys secunet automated border control gates
Vienna International Airport has commissioned 25 biometric eGates from secunet to automate passenger processing and reduce border wait times.
Vienna International Airport has installed 25 automated border control gates (eGates) developed by secunet Security Networks AG. The system, which became operational in December, consists of 16 gates designated for departures and nine for arrivals, intended to streamline passenger processing.
The eGates utilize biometric sensors and electronic document verification to allow for autonomous passport checks. By enabling parallel processing, the system is designed to accelerate transit for passengers while providing border officials with real-time monitoring tools. The infrastructure is based on open standards to ensure compatibility with potential future system expansions.
Secunet’s involvement extends beyond the hardware to include the delivery of monitoring software, administrative workstations, and a centralized server architecture. The company has a history of providing security technology in Austria, having previously supplied biometric data collection systems for residence permits and visa processing to various federal ministries.
