Nowadays, a San Francisco-based startup utilizing AI to streamline corporate event management, has leaned on its first engineering hire, Vin Bui, to establish its technical core. Joining from a background in Y Combinator-backed ventures, Bui has taken responsibility for tasks ranging from SOC 2 compliance to the development of custom AI voice agents capable of negotiating with vendors.
Bui characterizes his role as that of a technical founder, noting the necessity of self-reliance when building internal processes and IT structures. His focus remains on selecting appropriate AI models for specific workflows rather than utilizing a one-size-fits-all approach, a strategy he credits for his team's ability to ship product updates rapidly.
As the company has expanded to 11 employees, Bui’s responsibilities have evolved to include serving as a technical consultant for the team. He attributes the firm’s development pace to a culture of autonomy and open communication between the founders and the engineering staff.
