Virgin Galactic delays Delta-class commercial flights to 2027
Virgin Galactic has named its new Delta-class spacecraft Apeiron, but pushed back the start of commercial operations to 2027 due to software testing requirements.

Virgin Galactic has unveiled the name of its newest spacecraft, Apeiron, following a public vote. The vessel is the first of the company's Delta-class fleet, designed to increase flight frequency; however, the company confirmed this week that the maiden commercial flight will not occur until early 2027.
The delay stems from additional time required for avionics software integration and validation. Virgin Galactic stated that the extended testing period is necessary to ensure the systems meet operational requirements. The second Delta-class ship is now scheduled to begin service in mid-to-late 2027.
This schedule adjustment highlights the ongoing technical challenges in scaling spaceflight operations. Investors and industry analysts are monitoring the company's ability to transition from development to a consistent flight cadence as it works to address these software validation hurdles.
