Visa to Update Acquirer Monitoring Program (VAMP) Effective April 2025

Visa is set to implement significant revisions to its Acquirer Monitoring Program (VAMP) starting April 1, 2025, aiming to enhance fraud prevention and dispute management within its payment ecosystem.

The updated VAMP will consolidate fraud and non-fraud dispute tracking into a single metric, simplifying oversight while increasing focus on overall transaction health. Additionally, Visa is introducing advanced technology, such as the Visa Account Attack Intelligence (VAAI) Score system, to refine monitoring accuracy and move away from older systems.

These changes, while primarily targeted at acquirers, will have ripple effects for e-commerce merchants. Businesses that exceed new dispute and fraud thresholds may face direct fines passed on by their acquirers. Account enumeration fraud and other fraudulent transactions will carry greater weight in VAMP metrics, making robust fraud prevention strategies crucial.

Compaytence, a consultancy specializing in payment services, advises merchants to proactively strengthen fraud controls and optimize dispute resolution processes. Leveraging tools like Visa's Rapid Dispute Resolution (RDR) can help prevent disputes from counting against merchants in VAMP calculations, mitigating potential penalties and ensuring compliance.
