Vishal Mega Mart Expands Quick Commerce Services

Indian value retail chain Vishal Mega Mart is doubling down on its quick commerce operations amidst a broader shift in the country's retail landscape. The chain has expanded its quick delivery network to 767 stores across 520 cities, with its registered user base now exceeding 14 million.

Quick commerce currently accounts for 2-9% of individual store revenues, with an average order value of approximately 800 Indian rupees. Managing Director and CEO Gunender Kapur stated that the segment is contributing meaningfully and helping the company reach new customer demographics beyond its traditional offline business.

A key advantage of Vishal Mega Mart's approach is its utilization of existing store infrastructure for order fulfillment, negating the need for separate dark store investments. The company reports that 20% of its quick commerce customers are new to the brand and have not previously shopped at its physical outlets.

This strategy contrasts with competitors like DMart, which has indicated a focus on its Everyday Low Price model and scaling its existing e-commerce platform rather than pursuing ultra-fast delivery windows.
