Vision Marine Technologies Files Patent for Marine Low-Voltage Power Management

Vision Marine Technologies Inc. has submitted a new U.S. patent application focused on the distribution and selective load management of low-voltage electrical systems within marine vessels. This filing extends the architecture of its E-Motion™ 180E high-voltage electric propulsion system to encompass auxiliary power management priorities.

The proposed technology addresses the need to conserve battery power by intelligently managing auxiliary electrical loads. Even high-voltage electric boats rely on conventional low-voltage systems for controls and onboard functions. The new system is designed to prevent unnecessary battery depletion when the vessel is shut down, stored, or undergoing service, by prioritizing essential functions and disconnecting non-critical loads.

"A complete electric marine powertrain must manage both the high-voltage energy that propels the boat and the low-voltage systems that support practical and safe operation," stated Daniel Rathe, Chief Technology Officer at Vision Marine. "This application addresses a straightforward but important question: when the vessel is not operating, how does the system preserve energy for safety critical functions?" he added.

The patent application represents an expansion of Vision Marine's intellectual property strategy, covering the full spectrum of marine propulsion architecture. The company has industrialized its 180 HP E-Motion™ propulsion system and is integrating it across multiple boat brands. Vision Marine also holds the electric boat speed record set in 2023.

The application is pending examination by the United States Patent and Trademark Office, with no assurances given regarding the scope, timing, or outcome.
