VMware introduces vSphere Express for smaller virtualization environments
VMware has launched vSphere Express, a scaled-down virtualization tier designed to support systems with up to 128 cores.

VMware, a subsidiary of Broadcom, has released vSphere Express to target small- and medium-sized businesses (SMBs) seeking a more focused virtualization platform. The software supports environments with up to 128 cores, providing an alternative to the company's more comprehensive private cloud bundles.
The launch follows industry criticism regarding VMware’s transition toward the VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) package. Many smaller organizations reported that the removal of previous entry-level tiers, such as vSphere Standard, forced them to purchase expensive software features that exceeded their operational requirements.
By reintroducing a tiered option, the company aims to address complaints from its smaller user base regarding licensing complexity and pricing. This move signals a shift in strategy intended to retain customers who were previously incentivized to migrate to broader, enterprise-grade cloud solutions.
