Vodafone Showcases Application-Aware Fibre Broadband Technology
Vodafone and partners are demonstrating new network technologies at Network X in Vienna to improve fibre broadband performance for latency-sensitive applications like online gaming.

Vodafone and its technology partners are showcasing new broadband technologies at Network X in Vienna, aimed at giving customers greater control over connection quality for interactive, time-sensitive applications such as online gaming and videoconferencing. The demonstration, running from October 13-15 at the Broadband Forum booth, combines L4S (Low Latency, Low Loss, Scalable Throughput) with App-Aware QoE (Application-Aware Quality of Experience).
Together, these technologies could allow users to obtain differentiated service levels tailored to the requirements of particular applications, reducing delays for time-critical online activities, especially during peak traffic periods. Vodafone previously demonstrated that L4S technology can reduce network lag by up to 94%.
The L4S technology, deployed over fibre-based networks, enhances the responsiveness of services like cloud gaming and video conferences. App-Aware QoE monitors and prioritizes individual application performance rather than applying uniform treatment to all traffic. This aims to evolve fibre access infrastructure into an intelligent platform that responds to specific application needs.
Vodafone continues to support efforts to standardize low-latency networking and promote the use of L4S throughout broadband networks. The company emphasizes that collaboration through the Broadband Forum is important for ensuring equipment and services from different companies work together to deliver intended customer benefits.
