Voith introduces SealView NG for suction roll sealing strip wear monitoring

Heidenheim, Germany – Voith has introduced SealView NG, the latest generation of its monitoring system for suction roll sealing strips. The technology calculates and clearly displays the remaining service life of the seal strips, assisting operators in planning spare parts purchases, maintenance, and roll changes at the appropriate time.

The pneumatic-based system is designed as a cost-efficient solution with the potential to extend roll running times and improve machine availability. Sealing strips in suction rolls operate in demanding environments with humidity and contamination, which can affect service life and lead to unexpected shutdowns. Historically, operators have relied on experience or replaced strips prematurely to mitigate risks.

SealView NG enables paper manufacturers to continuously monitor the wear status of sealing strips across their entire width. By providing real-time, condition-based information, the system allows maintenance to be planned according to actual wear rather than estimates or fixed maintenance intervals. The system utilizes fail-safe pneumatic monitoring for reliable operation in harsh, damp environments, reducing the risk of short circuits or malfunctions. Unlike alternatives that typically offer only spot measurements, SealView NG monitors the sealing strips continuously across their full width.

Installation and operation have been simplified with a user-friendly design. An LED display provides immediate and precise wear-status information without requiring specialized IT expertise. SealView NG operates through a local, web-based application, allowing for offline use for enhanced security and reliability, without the need for an internet connection. The system is compatible with all major suction roll brands and can be installed during regular roll service at Voith's global mechanical roll service centers.

"With SealView NG, we have developed a continuous condition-monitoring system for suction roll sealing strips that is reliable and easy to use," said Halim Takhedmit, Digital Product Manager Fabric & Roll Systems at Voith Paper. "The pneumatic-based technology gives operators a clear picture of the wear status of their sealing strips, so they can plan maintenance more efficiently, avoid premature roll changes, and increase machine availability."
