Voith's MegaDrive targets longer service life and lower maintenance for paper mills

HEIDENHEIM, Germany – Voith has launched MegaDrive, a new rubber cover for wire drive rolls used in the forming section of paper and board machines. The company states the new technology is designed to enhance equipment service life and reduce maintenance needs under challenging operational conditions.

The MegaDrive cover reportedly exhibits up to 30% lower abrasion compared to standard covers. It is engineered to resist hardening, surface cracking, and loss of properties during extended runtimes. The cover maintains stable grip and traction even in wet conditions, with variable speeds, high mechanical loads, and fluctuating temperatures.

Performance of traditional roll covers can degrade over time due to hardening and cracking, potentially leading to loss of grip, product defects, and unplanned downtime. Voith asserts that MegaDrive enhances durability and flexibility, with its surface profile adaptable to the specific requirements of individual machines.

Voith also offers MegaDrive as part of comprehensive solutions, combining it with the company's forming fabrics. This integrated approach is intended to improve forming section runnability, extend service intervals, and reduce the risk of unplanned downtime in paper production facilities.
