Volkswagen China to Deploy Advanced Driver Assistance System in 2026

Volkswagen Group China announced that its full-scenario advanced driver-assistance system (ADAS) will be deployed starting in the third quarter of 2026. The technology will be introduced on seven new electrified models spanning the group's three joint ventures in China.

The system was developed by CARIZON, a joint venture between Volkswagen's software unit CARIAD and Horizon Robotics. CARIZON utilizes Horizon's AI foundation model under a "white-box" licensing agreement to develop a unified driving solution tailored for the Chinese market. This enables the integration of more sophisticated driver assistance features into the vehicles.

Volkswagen indicated that its first Level 3 autonomous driving system, which allows the driver to remove their hands from the steering wheel under certain conditions, could see deliveries begin in the second half of 2027. Systems at this level represent a significant advancement in vehicle autonomy.

The strategic collaboration with Horizon Robotics to develop software customized for the specific demands of the Chinese market is key to Volkswagen's efforts to bolster its standing in China's rapidly expanding electric vehicle sector.
