Volkswagen Group Plans Significant Reduction in Car Models
Volkswagen Group announced plans to potentially cut its model lineup by up to half by 2030 as part of a major cost-cutting initiative. Several models, including the Jetta and Porsche Taycan, are reportedly facing discontinuation.

Wolfsburg – Volkswagen Group has outlined a sweeping cost-reduction plan that could see its vehicle portfolio halved by 2030. The automaker intends to significantly streamline its offerings, reducing available configurations by 75% and lowering annual production capacity.
A preliminary list of models slated for discontinuation has reportedly emerged, according to German newspaper Bild. Volkswagen's Jetta (known as Sagitar in some markets) and Taos are said to be axed without successors. Porsche models are also reportedly on the chopping block.
The all-electric Porsche Taycan is rumored to be discontinued after its current lifecycle due to underperforming sales, with no direct replacement planned. The gasoline-powered Cayenne Coupe is also expected to reach the end of its production run. There are also reports that Porsche might cancel plans to reintroduce a combustion engine variant for the 718 Boxster and Cayman.
The proposed cuts extend to Audi, with the Q5 Sportback and the all-electric Q6 e-tron Sportback potentially not receiving next-generation updates. Skoda's Fabia is also listed for potential discontinuation, though the fate of related models like the Volkswagen Polo remains uncertain. Volkswagen estimates that by ceasing development of replacement models for these vehicles, it could save up to €6.5 billion by 2031.
