Volkswagen initiates recall of over 580,000 vehicles in China
Volkswagen Group is recalling more than 580,000 vehicles in China to replace steering component bolts prone to corrosion.

Volkswagen Group’s Chinese entities, including SAIC-Volkswagen and FAW-Volkswagen, have announced a recall of over 580,000 vehicles due to a manufacturing defect involving the steering mechanism. The recall affects various models, including the Golf, Tiguan, Teramont, and several Audi series, produced between 2014 and 2026.
The issue concerns the potential for the right-hand steering gear mounting bolt to corrode after prolonged exposure to moisture and de-icing agents. If the bolt fails, the steering gear connection could detach, potentially leading to a loss of steering control and creating a safety hazard.
Starting January 15, 2027, the company will offer free repairs at authorized dealerships to replace the affected bolts with upgraded parts. The manufacturer has advised owners to monitor for unusual metallic noises originating from the front axle area and to seek immediate professional inspection if steering irregularities occur.
