Volkswagen to Export China-Developed Technology to Global Markets
Volkswagen Group is shifting its China-focused strategy toward global technology integration, aiming to implement locally developed innovations in South American markets by 2030.
Volkswagen Group has announced a pivot in its regional strategy, positioning its China-based operations as a global hub for innovation rather than serving only the domestic market. The company aims to integrate its China-developed technologies, including the VEGA integration matrix, into its international vehicle lineup to bolster global competitiveness.
The strategy focuses on leveraging the CMP platform and CEA electronic architecture, which allow for localized customization across electric, hybrid, and internal combustion vehicles. Volkswagen has targeted South America as the first region to adopt these China-developed technical solutions by 2030, with plans to extend this integration to markets such as South Africa thereafter.
Volkswagen currently exports China-manufactured Volkswagen and Jetta models to the Middle East, Central Asia, and parts of Africa. By the end of 2026, the company expects to expand this export footprint further to include Vietnam, Egypt, and Mexico, marking a significant change in how the group manages its cross-market production and development.
