Volvo Autonomous Solutions Hauls 3 Million Tonnes Autonomously
Volvo Autonomous Solutions (V.A.S.) has transported over 3 million tonnes of material autonomously at mining and quarrying customer sites across Europe.
Gothenburg, Sweden – Volvo Autonomous Solutions (V.A.S.) has achieved a new milestone by hauling more than 3 million tonnes of material autonomously at its mining and quarrying customer sites in Europe.
This achievement demonstrates the capability of autonomous transport to deliver consistent and reliable value to customers. Key clients have included Brønnøy Kalk in Norway and Boliden Garpenberg in Sweden. Initial autonomous hauling for Brønnøy Kalk began in 2023, with the one-million-tonne mark reached in 2025.
Volvo provides its mining and quarrying customers with the Autona / earth solution, a complete, factory-assembled offering for autonomous transport. This "transport as a service" model includes autonomous trucks, a virtual driver, infrastructure, and operational support, reducing customer investment and technical complexity.
The autonomous trucks are manufactured at Volvo Group's facility in Säffle, enabling fast and consistent delivery. This positions V.A.S. to meet growing demand and accelerate customer implementation of autonomous hauling solutions.
